A partnership of three local NHS providers have been commissioned by East and North Herts Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to run the Cheshunt Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) from 1 April 2019. The partnership consists of HUC, the NHS111 provider for Hertfordshire, Luton & Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, Lea Valley Health Federation, which is an organisation which brings together GP practices in the area, and Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust. This means primary care, community services and urgent care services are working together in one place, which will enable patients to access excellent care for their minor injury without having to go to hospital.
Our team is managed by a Matron/Clinical Service Manager and consists of experienced nurses, medical technicians and receptionists. There are NO doctors at the unit. Please note our receptionists are not medically trained. Your clinical assessment will be undertaken by a nurse. You will be redirected to the most appropriate service if your condition cannot be treated at the MIU.
Our nurses have undergone extensive training to be able to diagnose and treat patients with minor injuries. There is an x-ray on site for diagnosing broken bones. The nurses can prescribe some medications for pain, minor infections and refer urgent conditions to other specialties if required.
Our medical technicians help the nurses in delivering care such as applying plaster casts and providing wound care for new injuries. We DO NOT offer a re-dressing or removal of stitches service. You must book to see your Practice Nurse at your GP surgery. We cannot treat any children under the age of one year.
